Arriving in Lexington is as easy as hopping on a plane since there is a local airport. From there, a choice of accommodations is just a taxi ride away. For a charming, more classic style, you might check out the Campbell House, but the more modern Radisson and Sheraton offer easy access to downtown. This is the area where many of Lexington’s best entertainment venues are located.
First and foremost is Rupp Arena. Here any number of interests can be piqued, and from the seats you can view basketball games, children’s shows, or Broadway productions. And for theater-goers, just a block down the street is the Lexington Opera House. This decadent, antique-looking building hosts well-known productions as well as local events. Both venues offer online options for planning and ticket purchase.
And if you’re more interested in making purchases of a shopping variety, downtown also offers unique shops, like those in Victorian Square. A walk around this area is a must-do for those who need souvenirs or just some antiques to take home.
Of course, you can also get souvenirs at the horse park, and it’s almost unheard of to visit Kentucky without seeing at least one race. Here, you can watch the races, place a bet, or visit the museum. And to throw in another classic, you might want to purchase some Maker’s Mark or Bourbon Balls on the way back.
Whatever your interests, Lexington can offer a fun weekend trip. You’ll find friendly attitudes mixed with modern opportunities for entertainment. |
